With a squad of 13 girls at this year’s division track meet, the White Pine girls track team outpaced the entire league, taking home the team title.
White Pine scored 213 points. The Meadows School finished second with 144.5 points.
The girls had a qualifier in every event except the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relays.
Autumn Lawrence led the pack with a school record in the long jump eclipsing the old mark of 16-5 held by Drusilla Locke.
Lawrence finished second in the long jump, second in the 200 meter dash, first in the 100 and 400-meter dashes.
Sophomore Caitlin Stanton has really shown a lot of hard work and dedication this year.
She finished second in the 1,600-meter run and after a 30-minute rest, took second in the 400-meter dash behind Lawrence.
Stanton finished third in the 800 and helped anchor the 4×400 meter relay with a third place finished which also included Lucy Fullmer, Savannah Drew and Brittany Bennett.
Bennett and Fullmer also finished first and second in the 100-meter hurdles. Drew lead all triple jumpers with a mark of 30-10. Fullmer was the top high jumper of the day with a jump of 5-0.
White Pine had girls score points all over the track for us and look forward to heading into the state meet with a state title on our minds. The coaching staff, could not be any more excited at what these young ladies have the chance to accomplish.
On the boys, White Pine had their string of eight straight division titles come to an end.
White Pine went into the last event of long jump with a shot of holding onto their title. After the competition had ended, White Pine look at Laughlin had finished first with 146 points, Meadows in second with 137 points and White Pine in third with 135 points.
The coaching staff is proud of the boys track team. They all over preformed to put them within reach of extending their division title streak.
Some notable marks for the boys included a second place finish for Jarrett Gubler in the long jump with a mark of 21-1. He also took first in the high jump with a mark of 6-2.
White Pine also placed well in the high jump. Carl Henze took second, Jessie Petersen finished third and Clay Poplin took fourth. Tommy Bischoff took first in the triple jump with a mark of 40-3. Henze also finished second in the triple jump and third in the 110 meter high hurdles.The State Track and Field meet will he held on Friday at Silverado High School.
