The 1,119-acre Snow Creek Fire is 50-percent contained. Full containment of the lightning-ignited fire located in the Goshute Canyon Wilderness, about 60 miles north of Ely, Nev., is expected by Thursday evening, Aug. 15.

The fire is situated in steep, rugged terrain. It is consuming mixed conifers and mountain mahogany. The fire poses NO threat to human life or property. Firefighter and public safety is the top priority. Firefighters today continued to monitor the east flank of the fire while continuing mop-up operations elsewhere on the perimeter.

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Ely District is being assisted by the Forest Service, North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District and local private contractors.

The fire was first reported shortly after 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 8.
