The Third Annual Plein Air Outdoor Arts Festival is soon to be at the Nevada Northern Railway in Ely, Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 30-Sept. 2. The annual arts festival begins with the “Meet the Artists’ Steam Train on Friday, Aug. 30 at 4:30 p.m. The Nevada Northern Railway is still signing up artists and artisans to participate, and there is absolutely no charge to do so. Artists will be onsite Saturday through Monday.
What makes this arts festival particularly unique is that most, if not all, of the artists are actually creating works of art onsite at the historic railroad.
In addition to painters, this year’s festival will also include artisans and, possibly, food vendors, to be determined. The Nevada Northern Railway is a National Historic Landmark and was just chosen “favorite treasure” in Pony Express Territory, pursuant to the Discover Your Nevada contest, sponsored by the Nevada Commission on Tourism.
Participating artists and artisans include both local residents and guests from other areas, including Utah. Salt Lake City artist, Colleen Reynolds will be back to paint after a successful visit last year. Reynolds’ painting of Nevada Northern Railway’s rail yard was selected to be featured on this year’s poster.
John Steinauer and Darl Clark are two esteemed local painters who will be participating again this year. Both artists have worked to restore the Liberty Pit mural painting in Ely. Their paintings have garnered attention locally and beyond. Local artists Delaine Spillsbury and Laura Rainey will also be attending.
Orderville Vines owner, Esther Duncan, from Delta, Utah, is returning for her second year. Duncan will be showcasing a new and unique way to create colorful scarves with intricate patterns.
Interested artists, artisans and vendors should contact Dany Feinstein, sales & marketing director for Nevada Northern Railway, at 866-40STEAM, 775-289-2085 x23 or via email at email@example.com. There is no charge for participation; though donations to the railroad are always appreciated.
