Nevada Northern’s third annual Plein Air Outdoor Arts Festival is a unique event allowing guests to watch art “live” — in other words, artists will be painting; artisans will be creating works of arts and crafts. It’s also an opportunity to get an original piece of art – perhaps, one that you even saw created. Whether you’re interested in railroad art (painting, photography, sketches) or a lovely handcrafted creation, it will all be here. One can even ask the artists’ “how it’s done,” as they will be happy to show you.

Something particularly new and fun this year will be the interactive arts booth by Kelly Kelsey, owner of Desert Rose Ceramics out of West Wendover. Patrons can purchase an unfinished piece and sit down at a table to paint it — then it will be glazed and fired – and you made it yourself! (I have more details on this).

To satisfy the appetite while wandering around the historic railyard and feeding the soul with artistic creations, Laura Rainey will be cooking up her famous Indian Tacos. And, of course, there will be a variety of train rides all throughout Labor Day Weekend — including the Meet the Artists Steam Train on Friday, Aug. 30 at 4:30 p.m., when passengers will have a chance to meet many of the artists who will be appearing at the event.
