District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Russell L. Childers will be making his official visitation to Ely Elks Lodge 1469 on Sept. 26. He will be accompanied by his Grand Esquire and Grand Auditor, with all the visitors to meet with Ely Lodge’s Exalted Ruler Michael Kneese.
All members are invited to attend the meeting, where he will speak on the goals of the current National Leader, Millard C. Pickering of Sapulpa Lodge 1118 in Oklahoma. He will also report on the condition of the lodge and make suggestions for improvement.
Childers is an 18-year member of the Order of Elks and is a Past Exalted Ruler of Las Vegas Lodge 1468. He began as an officer in 2003 and served as Exalted Ruler in 2008. He has served as Secretary, Vice President and President of the PER Association, Helldorado Days General Chairman and continues to be head of security for the Helldorado Rodeo.
Childers has served Las Vegas Lodge 1468 in the Hoop Shoot, Dictionary Program, Muscular Dystrophy Association and Officers pancakes breakfast for many years. He also served as Grand Auditor in 2010-2011.
Childers has been selected as Officer of the Year three times, Elk of the Month four times and is a Permanent Benefactor for the Elks National Foundation. He presently serves the NSEA as a Two Year Trustee and an Elks National Veterans Service Commission representative for Southern Nevada.
Childers is married to his wife Laurie and has eight children, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served 25 years in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, retiring in 1993. He presently works for the Clark County District Attorney’s office in the bad check unit.
Childers is looking forward to the new challenges and opportunities to serve Elkdom in his position as District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler (South). Childers has been appointed for this position of responsibility in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks because of his past dedication to his fraternal lodge and the Nevada State Elks Association. Grand Exalted Ruler Pickering made the appointment official at the 149th annual convention of the Order at Reno in July.
