Rebecca Nell Cluff was born on November 19, 1969 in Yerington, NV, to Larry and Cecilia Cluff. She later moved to Ely, NV, where her father Larry was a pastor of the United Methodist Church. She and her family moved to Shafter CA in 1984. She graduated from Shafter High School in 1988 and went on to attend Cal State Stanislaus and Cal State Bakersfield, earning her Bachelor’s degree and secondary teaching certification. She taught history at Emerson Middle School in Bakersfield, CA for the previous 13 years. She was passionate about her job and made history come alive for her students.
Becky had two daughters, Emily and Celia, with her former husband Servando Rodriguez. Becky raised her daughters with wisdom, humor, and a zest for adventure. They spent many summers at Pismo Beach, and enjoyed every minute.
Becky was a member of the Shafter United Methodist Church, where her father Larry served as pastor for many years. Becky considered many of the church’s members to be her family.
Becky was a vibrant, funny, extraordinary lady. She loved traveling, camping, teaching and spending time with her daughters. She was delighted to participate in the American Institute for History Education in which she traveled to many historic sites in the United States, making lots of friends along the way.
Becky spent the previous year dealing with a severe illness due to a lung infection. She was hospitalized in a variety of medical facilities, most in the LA area. In the face of pain, disability and fear, Becky never lost her courage – or humor. She fought with every ounce, and made it a point to make friends with healthcare providers and other patients wherever she went. Becky lost her battle on September 8, 2013.
Becky is survived by her daughters, Emily and Celia Rodriquez of Shafter; sister, Lori (Tom) Hatch, nephew Stephen Hatch, and niece Stephanie (Jeff) Worsnop, all of Reno, NV.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Cecilia Cluff.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Chapel Bakersfield, located at 6501 Schirra Ct. (off White Lane and Ash), Bakersfield, CA 93313.
