Kathy Tucker was awarded the Ely Lions Club’s “Teacher of the Month for September” at a special ceremony at last White Pine high School Board of Trustees meeting last week.
Tucker has been a drama teacher at White Pine High School for over 14 years.
High School Principal Adam Young, who made the nomination for Tucker said,”Mrs. Tucker is an example to all educators as the power influence a dedicated teacher has on her students. [She] inspires her students and collegue to be excellent. One of the greatest tributes to Mrs. Tucker is that her actors continue to stay involved with theatre for many, many years after they graduate.”
In accepting the award Tucker said,” I love teaching. Giving my students experiences on and off state is so rewarding. I think of them as beautiful gems and I get to show them off in a setting for all the audience to see. I think there is so much value in the things they can learn through theatre: self-confidence, showmanship, giving to the community, verbal and physical skills, etc. These are all things that they can use throughout their lives. And, let’s face it…It’s a ton of fun.”
The “Teacher of the Month” is now in its second year honoring outstanding educators in White Pine County.
Art Olson is chairman of the project.
