Great Basin National Park Superintendent Steven Mietz announced the hours of operation and scheduled tours for the Lehman Caves Visitor Center at Great Basin National Park. Starting Dec. 2, Lehman Caves Visitor Center will operate five days a week, Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. The Visitor Center will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
“Due to the reduced and uncertain budget picture, we are strategically deploying available park staff and resources to provide as much access as possible during the winter while allowing us to meet the next summer’s anticipated higher visitation and related service needs,” Mietz said.
To re-open the government, Congress provided funds at Fiscal Year 2013 levels through Jan. 15 – final funding for Fiscal Year 2014 will not be resolved before then. Given the continuing fiscal uncertainty, the National Park Service will exercise extreme caution in spending to ensure that available funding is directed to the highest resource priorities and serves the most visitors.
The Grand Palace Tour of Lehman Caves will be offered Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday at 1 p.m. On Saturday, in addition to the 1 p.m. tour, there will be a 9 a.m. tour. Tours are limited to 20 people, therefore, reservations for tours of Lehman caves are highly encouraged. Advance ticket sales for Lehman Caves may be made one to thirty days before the scheduled tour on a space available basis. Call 775.234.7517. Ticket sales are final and non-refundable.
After Saturday March 1, 2014 the Lehman Caves Visitor Center will expand operations to include two daily Grand Palace tours at 9: a.m. and 1 p.m. and two Lodge Room tours at 11 a.m. and 3 p. m.
