inmate death1The Nevada Department of Corrections reports that on Dec. 17, inmate Cornelius Acres died at the Regional Medical Facility at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Ely.
The inmate was a 60-year-old male serving a life sentence for Attempted Capital Murder in the State of Virginia.

The inmate has been incarcerated with the NDOC on this case since June 16, 1997, under the Interstate Corrections Compact Agreement. Virginia authorities have been notified.
He had been hospitalized for a terminal illness. The Carson City Coroner’s office responded to the facility.

An autopsy will be conducted. As the inmate was terminally ill, the department spoke to the inmate regarding end of life issues including next of kin. The inmate declared he had no next of kin.

NDOC has been in contact with Virginia authorities regarding next of kin issues.
