A benefit dinner will be held for lifelong Ely resident Monte Robinson on March 15 at the Bristlecone Convention Center at 5:30 p.m. Robinson was diagnosed with stage four Small Cell Lung Cancer in September of 2013. Since then, the cancer has spread to his spine, brain and other internal organs.

“We just wanted to see what we could do to help. We’ve all volunteered on benefit dinners like this in the past and seen how they could help. This community really jumps in and steps up to help people that are in trouble,” said Shane Bybee, a friend of Robinson.

The dinner will include a live auction and a raffle, with the prizes all donated by local businesses and members of the community. Racks Bar and Grill will also set up a bar for cocktails. All the proceeds generated will go directly to help out Robinson’s family with their mounting medical bills, Bybee said.

“Their out of pocket expenses are eating up every dime they’ve got.”

Bybee’s daughter, Hailey Ruesch, who works with Robinson’s wife, has joined in the cause. She has been going around town hanging posters for the benefit and gathering donations.

“They are just good people who are going through a rough time. I know they are always willing to help everyone else out so I thought maybe we could offer a helping hand,” Ruesch said.

Robinson is currently undergoing treatment at the Huntsman Cancer Center in Salt Lake City. So far he has been responding well to treatment.

Tickets for the benefit dinner are $25 and are available at Tiffany Swetich’s State Farm Insurance, Rack’s Bar and Grill, D & D Financial Services and The Ramada Inn & Copper Queen Casino.
