The White Pine High S School baseball team got over their hitting slump on Saturday in a 23-3 road win over Silver Stage. The victory broke the team out of an 11-game losing streak, though they lost 5-2 in the second game of the double-header to the Nighthawks.

In the Bobcat’s first conference win of the season, the team batted a .474 with 11 RBI’s. Almost every player that stepped up to the plate scored a run. Kade Britton had his best offensive game of the season, leading the team with four runs. Not far behind were Cody Brunson, Nate Laity and Mike Williams, who all ended the game with three runs apiece.

The Bobcat’s also stepped up their game on defense, another area that has been an issue since the beginning of the season. The Bobcat’s pitchers seven strikeouts helped make sure the Nighthawks couldn’t turn the game into a shootout.

The defense continued to hold strong in the second game, only allowing one run in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning after being tied at 2-2 in the third. The Nighthawks were able to shut down the hitting game more effectively the second time around, lowering the Bobcat’s batting average to .231.

After a road game against West Wendover, the Bobcats will finish the rest of their conference season at home, facing off against West Wendover again on Thursday at 4p.m., followed by a double-header Monday against Silver State Academy at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
