Concerned with the safety of children, the City of Ely, at the request of the Great Basin Service Club passed a resolution several years ago to allow NO PARKING on Aultman Street on the 4th of July, between the hours of 6 a.m. and 1 p.m. This restriction is necessary for the safety of the children that run out in the road after that treasured piece of candy that is thrown during the parade. In addition, this will also provide better visibility for everyone watching the parade and will give the participants an unobstructed view of the children. The club understands this may be an inconvenience for some; however, it is in the best interest of safety for our children and residents. The cooperation of the community in this endeavor will be greatly appreciated.
For citizens with a handicapped license plate or placard there will be two-blocks designated for their parking convenience on the south side so they are not directly in the sun starting from the vacant lot at Aultman & 6th Street and ending at the County Park. Vehicles parked in this area must display the correct license plate or internal placard from the rear view mirror. Any vehicle parked without the proper identification on the vehicle will be required to remove their vehicle from Aultman until after 1 p.m. Questions regarding the parking restriction, available concession space in the park and preregistration can be directed to 289-2111.
Registration will be from 8:30 to 10:00 a.m. in Boardbent Park. All participants must be registered by 10:00 a.m. to allow sufficient time to print out the judge’s sheets, no exceptions. Those preregistered must have picked up their assigned number by 10:30 a.m. to be judged in the parade. There will be NO EXCEPTIONS due to the time constraints for the parade.
Culminating the 4th of July activities will be the fireworks starting at 9 p.m. on the County Golf Course. Grab a chair, blanket, and your family and join us at the Golf Course for an exciting fireworks display.
