The White Pine War Memorial Foundation will hold its fifth annual golf tournament on July 4, at the White Pine County Golf Course. Sign ups start at 8 a.m. followed by a 9 a.m. shotgun.

Entry fee is $50 plus cart and green fees and includes a steak dinner afterwards sponsored by Midway Gold.

“There will be special Veteran’s challenges this year, including the Wounded Warriors Par Three Challenge, The Disabled Vet’s Putting Challenge, and the Active Duty Vet’s Long Drive Challenge,” according to Dave Huckaby, Secretary of the Foundation.

To date, the organization has honored all 123 soldiers from White Pine who have died in action while serving our country. Memorials are on display at the White Pine High School with the exception of the WWI-Spanish American War memorial which will be dedicated on Veterans Day this November. Funds raised this year will help all Veterans causes, including scholarships, health issues and services for disabled veterans.

“Veterans with needs should contact our group for assistance,” Huckaby said.

Board members include Dan Maestes, Mike Lemich, Brent Rose, John O’Fharety, Scott Hase, Henry Blair, Terry Gust, Dennis Caviglia, Dave Huckaby, Bob Nichols, and Dick Munson.

All Veterans are invited for the steak fry at 2 p.m., compliments of Midway Gold.

In addition to all of the regular festivities, a special prize will be awarded to the team showing the most outstanding patriotism.

“This can be in the form of costumes, cart decoration, or just about anything that says Happy Birthday America!” said Huckaby. “We thought it might be fun to go all out to thank our veterans and salute our great nation. Hopefully the course will be a sea of Red, White, and Blue!”

Everyone is invited to attend the tournament or just come out to the golf course to renew old acquaints.

You may sign up for the Tournament by contacting Randy Long at the Golf Course. Hole sponsors are welcome as well as raffle prize contributors. For more information, contact Brent Rose at 775 296 1440, Dan Maestes at 775 235 7343, or Dave Huckaby in Reno at 775-777 5677.
