Dan Bliss pic1Dan Bliss, age 63, of Ruth, NV passed away October 6, 2014.  He was born November 2, 1950 in Ely, NV to Warren and  Marie Gormon Bliss.  After nearly a 6 year fight with cancer, he taught everybody around him the true meaning of strength and faith.

Dan attended White Pine County Schools and graduated from White Pine High School in 1969.  He was drafted in the US Army in 1970 and served in the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1971 as a radar tech.  Dan married his high school sweetheart and soul mate Beverly Braun on February 12, 1972 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ely.   He worked for the City of Ely for 29 years, he retired in June of 2008 as the Deputy Director of Public Works (Water 1).  He then took a part time job, as he would say (50 hours a week), for JCR construction which he thoroughly looked forward to doing everyday.  Dan was a faithful member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.  Dan found great joy in children as he coached Little League Baseball for 11 years and then once was known as one of “the voices of the Bobcats” as a sports announcer for our local high school.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, pine nut picking (never passed up a good one), traveling and woodworking.  One of his fondest memories was a recent gift from his children of a white tail hunt to Texas.  Dan loved to spend time with his family, and his grandchildren were the light of his life.  Dan was the life of the party and in any situation could always make anybody smile or laugh.

Dan is survived by his wife Beverly Bliss of Ruth; two sons Chad (Rosie) Bliss of Eureka, NV and Cody Bliss of Ely; daughter Bernadett (Shannon) Sena of Ely;  seven grandchildren Hannah, Nicholas, Natalie, Hadley Bliss and Sawyer Bliss, Brooklynn and Warner Sena; sisters Linda (Bob) Goff, Kay Leavitt, Glenna (Richard) Holen and Joyce Hyatt; brother Bobby Bliss; sister and brother-in-laws Margie (Bob) Welch, Marcella (Ray) McDonald, Janice McShane, Karen McCrory, Sharie Martin, Teresa (Allan) Wise and Darlene (Dale) Haslem and numerous nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents Warren and Marie Bliss.

The Recitation of the Rosary will be held Thursday October 16th at 7:00 P.M. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Catholic holy mass will be held Friday October 17th at 11:00 A.M. at the Sacred Heart Church in his honor.
