Helen was born to parents Victor Gardner and Devona Maria Jensen Gardner on February 24, 1924 in Preston, Nevada. She attended Preston Elementary, and Lund High School.
Helen came to Ely in 1938 to work at the Georgetown Ranch as assistant cook to Evah Bybee. She met the love of her life, Joy McClane Bybee on the Georgetown Ranch.
She and Joy were married on August 14, 1945. Their marriage was solemnized on March 6, 1965 at the St. George Utah Temple.
They raised their family of three sons and a daughter in Ely, Nevada.
Helen’s main priority and passion is life was raising her family. She worked at the Georgetown Ranch as assistant cook, J.C. Penny”s, Evah’s Drive Inn, and Business owner of the Bristlecone Motel.
Helen was a lifetime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Helen was very involved in Relief Society, Cub Scout Leader, Weblos, Guide Patrol, and a Primary and Sunday School Teacher. She was also a Young Women’s Leader which she loved. Helen and Joy spent many hours working on Genealogy.
In retirement Helen and Joy traveled extensively, square danced, attended both Gardner and Bybee reunions. They enjoy their time working for the State of Nevada Tourism Board, promoting White Pine County and Nevada in Quartzite AZ.
Helen is survived by her brother Jimmy Gardner. Children: Hal (CrisAnn), Craig (Jodi), Bern (Charlene), and Joy Lyn (Mike). Grandchildren: Lynlee, Jared, Mac, Caleb, Jacob, Shannon, Tanya, Alex, Eric, Jessica and Ryan. Great GrandChildren: Dakota, Beau, Logan, Audra, Ava and Easton.
She is preceded in death by her husband Joy M. Bybee, her parents Victor and Devona Gardner, Great Granddaughter Elena Victoria. Sisters: Levon, Jane, Iris, and Merle. Brothers: Harry, Darrell, Lynn, Don, and Amos.
Funeral will be held Tuesday December 2, 2014 at the Ely LDS Stake Center. Burial at the Ely City Cemetery.
Visitation 10:00A.M. Relief Society room. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M.
The family requests Memorial donations be made to the Ely 3rd Ward Boy Scouts of America.
