The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest is asking the public to comment on the preliminary Ely Ranger District Wilderness Management Plan and Environmental Assessment, and proposed amendment to the Humboldt National Forest Plan.

The comment period concludes 45 calendar days following publication of the legal notice in the Elko Daily Free Press.

The plan would provide supplemental management direction for the preservation of wilderness character in the Ely Ranger District’s nine wilderness areas and Bureau of Land Management-administered portion of the Mt. Moriah Wilderness.  It would amend the Humboldt National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan to provide management guidance for the five wilderness areas designated by the White Pine County Conservation, Recreation, and Development Act of 2006 and augment the guidance for the four wilderness areas designated in 1989. The Mt. Moriah Wilderness Management Plan was scheduled for revision in 2005.
