The First National Bank of Ely has issued a $30,000 challenge grant to the Nevada Northern Railway Museum, which will double all contributions made through the end of 2014. Until December 31, all monies contributed will be matched up to $30,000, including memberships, membership renewals and donations.

“All funds that the Nevada Northern Railway raises through the end of the year will be matched dollar for dollar up to $30,000, which will help to preserve this important community treasure,” said John C. Gianoli, president of First National Bank of Ely.

“The timing couldn’t be better to keep our historic locomotives in operation,” said Mark Bassett, executive director of the railroad.  “The railroad currently has three critical needs:  Locomotives 105 and 109 need new cylinder liners which will cost an estimated $40,000.  And Locomotive 93 needs running gear and throttle work for an estimated cost of $20,000.”

“As of December 21, we have raised $19,145! With a little more than a week we have our work cut out for us to get it over the top,” according to Bassett. Financial contributions to the non-profit museum are tax-deductible. Time is of the essence to keep the Nevada Northern Railway rolling into the New Year!
