Joey Mendez-Ross174, of Queen Creek, Arizona passed away on November 22, 2014.  Per Joey’s request, a private Vikings Funeral (ashes sent out to sea, on a boat set on fire) will be held Saturday, December 27th off the coast of San Diego, CA. Afterward, her family is throwing a big party on the beach around camp-fires to celebrate her life.

Her six children and those who knew her, remember her for being wise, curious, fair, and strong. To her heirs, she leaves her life-long love of education, travel, elegant clothing design, knowledge of gems, and recipes for amazing Thanksgiving pies. In her typical fashion of style and grace, some of her last words to her children were “Don’t worry about me, you’ll be fine. Change is good”.

She grew up in Eureka, NV, attended Eureka Consolidated Grammar and Lincoln County High School, and Englewood High School, in CO. In the 1960’s she moved to Arizona, attended Mesa Community College. She retired from work at the Arizona State Capital and Carnegie Building.

Joey was born on May14th, 1939 in Eureka NV, to the late Neva Tognoni-Mendez and John Mendez. Her spirit is carried on by her five living children: Julie Percha, Marvin Percha, Jr, Michelle Percha-Gibbs, Claudine Wakefield, Perfidia Moffitt, and 8 Grandchildren: Britni, Brandon, Meagan, Casey, Gunnar, John, Maryann, Joseph. Her surviving siblings are; Tony Mendez, Cindy Violante, Maureen Bybee, Nancy Wilson. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends. Joey was proceeded in death by husband, Dale Ross, brother, John Mendez, and daughter, Laurie Flanagan.

Masses held at Our Lady of Guadeloupe in Queen Creek, AZ, The Immaculata at UCSD, and St Francis Xavier Church in Phoenix, AZ.
