Three White Pine 4-H members competed at the Nevada State 4-H Shooting Competition in Carson City on Sept. 13. In order to qualify for the State Shoot, 4-H members must earn a blue ribbon at the County Shoot. Mason Hayward, Joey Leyba and Sadie Leyba represented White Pine County well by receiving top honors. All three, not only earned blue ribbons at the State level, but were also recognized with GOLD medals as they earned the highest score in their age division and their discipline. Mason, a junior in 4-H, received a gold medal in shotgun. Joey, a junior in 4-H, earned a gold medal in air pistol. Sadie, a senior in 4-H, received three gold medals in three separate disciplines – .22 rifle, air rifle, and air pistol. She also received a silver medal in muzzle loader. Sadie was recognized as the high point shooter of the senior division, as well as the high point shooter of the entire Nevada State 4-H Shooting Competition. The Hayward and Leyba families would like to thank Pete Mangum, Ron Huntington, Scott Laity, and the NRA for all their support. (Courtesy photo)
