The auditing firm Larry L. Bertsch, CPA & Associates, released an update into their ongoing forensic audit into the Nevada’s Northern Railways books on Jan. 8. In a three-page email sent to City of Ely mayor Melody Van Camp, the update provides a time-line of the firm’s progress over the past several months.

According to the email, the auditor met with NNRY’s Director Mark Bassett and the railroad foundation’s attorney Scott Husbands on Nov. 17 and 18 to obtain information that was requested on Oct. 17, 2014. The auditor notes that Bassett provided the firm with a copy of the foundation’s QuickBooks file, a computer program often used to handle the financials of a small business. On Nov. 26, 2014, after reviewing the QuickBooks file, the auditor then sent back a request of information and documents that related to previous years audits, bank accounts, promissory notes,  loans and more.

According to the timeline laid out in the email by the auditors, Bassett responded to the request on Dec. 2, saying that he would “put together the requested information this week.”
