Our loving mom, grandma, and sister passed away peacefullly at home on February 3, 2015, she was 78 years old.
Mom was born on June 23, 1936 to Joseph and Jennie Pellegrino in Ruth, Nevada and was the youngest of three girls.
Mom dedicated her life to her three children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was a single mom and worked hard to provide for all her children. We never went without anything we wanted or needed.
Mom was strong, independent, and what she lacked in stature she made up for in tenacity. The phrase “dynamite comes in small packages” could have been coined just for her. We learned to never ask for her opinion, if we didn’t want to hear what she had to say.
Mom worked at Evah’s for almost 40 years before her health forced her to retire in 2008. She made many lasting friendships in her lifetime and she was especially close to her sister Grace.
Mom is survived by her children Chris Matson, Jennifer Meecham of Ely and Randy Matson of Winnemucca, NV. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, her sister Grace Shiflett of Kearns Utah, and several nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her sister Marion Burger, two brother-in-laws and her great-grandson Connor Weir.
At her request, no services will be held.
Rest in peace Joann. You will be greatly missed.
My heart goes out to your family, Joann and I were good friends at Ruth grade school and White Pine high school, Your grandparents were my godparents when I went into the Catholic church,I loved them. You are right when you said.”that you never asked her anything unless you wanted the truth” I loved that about her. R.I.P.
My heart goes out to all of the family, We were very good friends at Ruth grade school and White Pine High.
Your grandparents were my Godparents when I became a Catholic, We used to see one another whenever I went
to Ely, Yes, I agree with her being very ” Frank” You always knew what she thought. She will be missed by all who
knew her.
Outstanding Lady, I worked with her at Evah’s when I was going to high school in the mid 70’s. Always a joy to be around.
