Joe Sheldon Larson, 82, passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2015 in Reno, Nevada after a battle with mesothelioma.

Born in Ely, Nevada to Fred and Daisy Larson on October 6, 1932, he attended White Pine High School, and then later joined the Navy in 1951 to serve in the Korean War.  After leaving the Navy, Joe moved to Costa Mesa, CA where he met and married the love of his life, Dorothy Sollis. They were married for 52 years. Joe and Dot made their home in Ely where they reared their four children. They later moved to Page, Arizona, and finally retired in Reno, Nevada in 1994.

Joe worked as a ranch hand, a welder, and a train mechanic.  He enjoyed ranching, boating, and fishing, and spending time with his family.  He loved horses, especially the wild mustangs that roamed the hills near his home in South Reno.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Daisy Larson, brother, Clark Larson; son, Ron Larson, and wife, Dorothy.  Joe is survived by his sister, Patti Kalafatic of Boise, daughter, Kim Beseler and son, David Larson both of Reno, daughter, Cari and son-in-law, Steve Garcia of Elko, seven grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Ely on Saturday, February 21st at 11:00 AM.
