Patty Diane Munson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, was called home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, February 26, 2015, after a courageous battle with health issues.
Diane was born on June 13, 1933 in McGill, Nevada, to Henry Paul and Melba Slater. Diane was a true native of McGill living away from there for only a short time in her life. She graduated from WPHS in 1951 and attended BYU for nearly two years. A handsome GI, Dick Munson, had just returned home from Korea, and a friendship that started in the fourth grade blossomed into a love that would endure for 60 years. They were married for time and all eternity in the Manti LDS Temple on July 15, 1955.
Diane’s life before marriage was filled with music and education. An accomplished pianist Diane taught music to two generations of White Pine County residents.
After marriage she devoted her life to her husband and 6 children. A perfect example of a homemaker she served them all tirelessly every day. Numerous Afghans, scarfs, hot pads and other crocheted items were made with love and distributed to many friends and family members. Diane loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and served him her entire life. Countless dinner dances and projects were headed up by her and were alwaysdone to perfection. She was the organist for the McGill Ward for over 40 years and she touched many with her quiet testimony.
Diane also had a love for gardening. She loved nothing more than digging in the dirt, and seeing new life grow. Beautiful flowers, vegetable gardens and the greenest lawns ever were her trademark.
Diane is survived by her husband, Dick, daughter-in-law Kristl Munson, sons; Mick (Margaret) Munson, Joel Munson (Sergio), Craig (Teresa) Munson, Deland (Suzette) Munson and daughter; Erin (David) Costello,17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, sister, Vicki Terry, brothers; Darold and Wayne Slater. She was predeceased by her parents and one son; Richard Munson.
Services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 in McGill, Nevada with interment at the Ely City Cemetery
So sorry to hear about Diane. I was one of her flower girls at the Gold and Green Ball when I was about 4 years old, along with her sister Vicky. Dick was my 8th grade teacher. They were wonderful people, great family
I am sorry to hear about the passing of Diane. I am grateful for having known her and her family. For Sunday dinner this week, because of a memory from being at her house. I am going to make a cake she use to make. She would bake a cake with notes inside (sometimes clean change like dimes) but I remember the notes that said things like ” YOUR AMAZING” I think my niece and nephews will get a kick out of it just like we did when we went to the Munson’s for dinner.
Diane was such a sweetheart and was so much a part of our becoming members of the church. Her sweet soul will always be a part of thè McGill ward. You will be missed but look forward to seeing you again someday. Hugs and kisses to Sick and especially Mick. Love you guys to the moon and back.
Sweet Diane, we sure loved you at Cottonwood Place. Everyday I went into work I looked forward to seeing your smile. You led your family with grace and compassion and made everyone around you feel special. Your legacy lives on and for that we owe you a big thank you.
Erin…I am so sorry for your loss…I remember your mom she was so nice…praying for you all. Cathie

Dick and family; Sorry to hear of the loss of Diane. She was always counted on in the McGill Ward, with all the numerous roadshows, music festivals, and dinner dance programs and decorates. Many happy hours were spent with her in these endeavors. We shall miss her.

Dear Munson Family
So sorry for your loss Diane was very special to our family. I am sure that she is up there playing for my Dad to sing among others. She will be missed. Much love and prayers are sent your way at this time.
Love
Ron and Diane
Diana was our next door neighbor when I was growing up, when we left McGill it broke my heart because the Munson were like family. I remember watching her make bread, cinnamon rolls couldn’t wait tell they were done so we could eat one and she always gave it with a smile. She was the first Adult that asked to be called by her name, that made it more personal. She had a garden right over the fences I use to stand on the propane tank and talk with her and the family. And don’t get us around the piano, we would sing for hours, what fun. I have missed her all these years but I know she is happy where she is with our Heavenly Father and her love one’s. My heart goes out to Dick and the family my prayers will be with them for comfort and peace. Love Robyn Steele
Sweet Dick and family,
Mr thoughts and prayers are with you. You and Diane were such a great example to me growing up. I will never forget the great patience you both had for the youth of our ward. And what great friends you both were to my family.
Love to you and your family,

it is always difficult at the passing of a loved one, i offer my prayers for Dick and family during this time of loss.
Dick, I am so sorry for your loss. I know you will find the inner strength to carry on. You are in our prayers.
Dear Dick and Family
I am so sorry for your loss. Growing up in McGill, the Slaters and the Munsons were our friends and neighbors, and a permanent part of our small town family memories. Dick was my 8th grade teacher and he and Diane were good and true friends of my mother and father. Diane’s sweet smile and quiet beauty come to mind while writing this.
