To the Editor:

One of the problems conservatives have with our president is his use of executive order to change policy without congress being able to vote on the issue. The Mayor’s and City Council’s attempt to keep the disincorporation bill off the ballot amounts to the same thing and that is also unacceptable.

To the Editor:

The Point of View presented by Gary Cook in last week’s paper is, sadly, a glaring example of one of Ely’s most vexing problems.  A few uninformed, misguided activists armed only with a bit of one-sided information leap on the nearest soapbox and start spewing a bunch of “facts.” Without talking with the people involved.  Without researching the history. Without looking at the books.  Without knowing the facts.  Everyone is entitled to his/her opinion.  But it is a shame that the publisher of the paper would print a bunch of opinions about the Council without even talking with a Councilman/woman.

I had a very pleasant conversation with Gary on Monday, and I am hopeful that this type of uninformed opinion reporting will not be repeated.  I personally will extend the effort to overlook this injustice and I will provide more input to the paper. But in return I would hope for collateral effort to get the facts right.
