The Ely City Council and Railroad Board of Trustees might completely walk away from having a controlling stake in the White Pine Historical Railroad Museum and Nevada Northern Railway according to their latest agenda, posted Wednesday morning.
The trustees will hold a special public meeting inside the Armory on May 4 at 5 p.m. to vote on an agenda item that would grant and reassign the trustee’s “control and responsibilities” of the railroad to the foundation’s management board. According to the agenda item, the purpose of the action would be to “settle and/or resolve the current lawsuit” the foundation filed against the trustees.
In the council’s regular bi-weekly meeting held on April 23, the council/trustees approved another payment to Larry Bersch, CPA & Associates LLP for $2300 to pay for research that went into the “forensic examination” the firm did of the railroad’s finances.
The council also approved the creation of a citizen committee that would advise the council on future uses of the soon to be former city hall building.
