After years of close calls and back and fourth in the media, a fight between boxing’s two biggest superstars will finally happen inside the the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday. While the high-priced tickets to see the fight live sold out in 60 seconds, millions of viewers from around the world are expected to watch the $100 pay-per-view event.
According to Gaughan Gaming’s Vinny Magliulo, local sports bettors looking to try their luck on either Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Manny Pacquiao will have a variety of ways to bet on the megafight inside the Hotel Nevada’s live sportsbook.
Options range from choosing which fighter will win to whether or not the fight will “go the distance” for the full 12 rounds. While the odds are subject to change up until the fight itself, Mayweather was the favorite as of Wednesday afternoon. According to Magliulo, the two most bet on options as of Wednesday were Pacquiao to win and for the two fighters to draw.
“I’ve booked many megafights over the years in Las Vegas but this will be one of the biggest if not the biggest and most wagered on fight we’ve ever had here,” Magliulo said.
But the long-anticipated boxing match isn’t the only big betting opportunity this weekend, as Saturday will also feature the Kentucky Derby. Beyond that, the weekend’s slate of playoff NBA and NHL games are also expected to be big draws to the sports book and that isn’t even taking into consideration the regular slate of MLB games. From the sportbooks perspective, this weekend could be historic.
“In my opinion, I think it is safe to say that this will be the largest sports race and sports betting Spring weekend ever,” Magliulo said. “Obviously the Superbowl is usually the biggest and March Madness is huge but this will rival those. I think it will go down as one of the biggest wagering weekends ever.”
