The White Pine County Horse Races are set to go Aug. 22 and 23, it was announced by Bob Bartlett, Race Manager. The race will coincide with the White Pine County Fair, Annual Barbecue, Ranch Rodeo and Livestock Auction, all slated for the weekend of Aug. 21 through 23. Because of other horse races throughout the region that includes the states of Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and Nevada the minimum purses have been raised to an average of $5,000. “We are hoping to gain more sponsors this year,” explained Bartlett. “The races mean a lot to the community financially and as a funtime event. A lot of people travel to White Pine County, fill the lodging and restaurant facilities and make White Pine County a destination area.” The horse races are run with a lot of volunteer help. It is a non-profit organization and all of the profits are used to improve the racing facility for future racing fans to enjoy.
