To the Editor:
I would like to express my appreciation to Mayor Van Camp in her continuing effort to keep our city clean.
In the most recent clean up, the White Pine Middle School and White Pine High School both participated in the effort. I feel that this is especially important because it instills in our younger people a feeling of belonging to the community, as well as a sense of pride.
I was out of town and unable to participate in the most recently activity, however, I continue make my contribution by continuing to clean up the trash along the “bypass” on nearly a daily basis.
I sincerely feel that this campaign of Mayor Van Camp’s is a very valuable program for the community and I hope to see more and more volunteers for each future activity. I encourage everybody to participate even if it is not possible to stay the allotted time. From personal experience I can say with certainty that once a person picks up another’s trash, he is much less likely to discard his own for someone else to pick up.
Thank you Mayor and all who helped
To the Editor:
I want to extend a sincere “Thank You” to the staff and management of both the Ely Times and KELY Radio for their sponsorship of “Meet the Candidate” night Last Monday, and the ongoing radio interviews. An informed public is the foundation of our system of government and these activities provide a forum where questions can be answered and problems resolved. It would be a sad situation if the only conduit for campaign information was via paid advertisement because then it is simply big money that delivers its message – we clearly see this at the state and federal levels. Here at the local level we still have the chance to meet our candidates face to face and get questions answered. Please feel free to contact me with any concerns through by phone, email or facebook. Thank you for making the effort to be an informed voter.
Sincerely, Marty Westland
