Liz Krch will celebrate her 100th birthday on Sunday, July 12. She was born in Yankton, South Dakota in 1915. Liz survived the “Great Depression” and has many stories on how her Austrian born mother raised seven children in the Sacramento Valley during the early 1900’s. During WWII Krch cut steel for war ships in the ship yards in Oakland CA. She has lived in Ely for the past 30 years, and is the mother of Warren Krch and Georgia Taylor. She has 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Since moving to Ely she has been very active in the community. Liz volunteered as a tutor for many years at Sacred Heart Parochial School. As her grandchildren went through the 4-H program grandma was always available to drive and take part in as many activities as possible. She worked at Head Start, White Pine County Museum and babysat for infants. In honor of Liz, mother, grandma, great-grandma and great-great grandma, there will be an open house at the Krch’s. 103 Grant Ave. from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday. Come by and reminisce with Liz and enjoy a piece of cake with her. Please no gifts.
