On April 6, 2013, during the Saturday morning session of the 183rd Annual General Conference, President Thomas S. Monson announced that a new temple would be constructed in the city of Cedar City, Utah. The Cedar City Utah Temple Groundbreaking and Temple Site Dedication will be at 10 a.m. on August 8. Attendance at the site will be by invitation only. However, it will be broadcast live to each of the 17 stake centers within the proposed Temple District. All are invited to participate in the broadcast of this historic occasion. Sunday dress is appropriate. President L. Whitney Clayton of the Presidency of the Seventy will be presiding at the ground breaking service. Elder Kent F Richards of the second quorum of the Seventy will be conducting.

The new Cedar City temple will serve members from 17 stakes in southern Utah and Eastern Nevada. They include:

— Beaver Utah Stake Cedar City Utah West Stake Escalante Utah Stake

— Cedar City Utah Canyon View Stake Cedar City YSA 1st Stake Minersville Utah Stake

— Cedar City Utah Cross Hollow Stake Cedar City YSA 2nd Stake Panaca Nevada Stake

— Cedar City Utah Married Student Stake Ely Nevada Stake Panguitch Utah Stake

— Cedar City Utah North Stake Enoch Utah Stake Parowan Utah Stake

— Cedar City Utah Stake Enoch Utah West Stake

The temple will be located at  300 South Cove Drive, Cedar City Utah and sit across 7.3 acres. It will stand four stories high and be approximately 42,657 square feet.
