White Pine School District
The first day of school for White Pine students is Aug. 24. The middle school gym opens at 7:45 a.m. for student entrance with classes beginning at 8 a.m., this year. This is two minutes earlier than last year.
The middle school was the 1:1 device pilot school for the district last year and this year all students will need to have a 1:1 device in order to effectively learn in their classes. All students will be assessed at $20 technology fee that will cover normal wear and tear on their school issued computer and minor repairs. Carelessness that significantly damages a machine will be the responsibility of the student no different than if a student destroyed other school property through carelessness.
Imagine a class where students can learn at their own pace, increase speed over knowledge that comes easily while slowing down for concepts where more time is needed. This is what was piloted in 8th grade math last year and will be part of the seventh and eighth grade this year. The official term is Blended Learning and will be a key part of the middle school’s integrated learning goal.
In order to be best prepared for the opening of school, parents are invited to the Open House on Aug. 19 beginning at 6 p.m. in the gymnasium. Parents and students will move from the gym to designated areas where they will be taught by their child’s grade level teacher about how to make this the best year yet. You won’t want to miss this opening to an fabulous school year.
Finally, all sixth grade students are reminded that their orientation begins at 2:30 p.m. on Aug. 19, in the gym. The eighth grade leadership students have prepared a fun, informative afternoon to ensure that all sixth grade students are ready for middle school.
