Planning is underway for a Community-wide Christmas Festival.

The Christmas decorating committee has lots of ideas for decorating Ely for the holiday season. Many organizations are involved including the White Pine Chamber of Commerce, the White Pine Tourism and Recreation Board, and the Great Basin Service Club.

The Chamber of Commerce will be putting up the community Christmas tree again this year at the Sculpture Park. This year, more decorations will be added to the tree including wreaths with red bows. The tree will be lit on Friday, Nov. 27 at 6 p.m.

Service organizations and the area schools are planning on making Christmas cards that will be constructed from plywood. These will be on display in the County Park and will also be lit on Nov. 27. If your organization wishes to create a card, please contact Ed Spear at 775-289-3720.

The Bristlecone Convention Center will again be decorated for the Sights, Sounds and Smells of Christmas and the Festival of Trees. These beautiful decorations will be on display beginning Nov. 30 and running through December 5. Get your tickets early for the tree auction by contacting the Bristlecone Convention Center at 775-289-3720.

The Heritage Festival is planned for Dec. 12 at the Ely Elks Lodge. We are looking for people to talk about and demonstrate an ethnic food they are familiar with. If you would like to be involved in this event, please contact Wayne Cameron at the Chamber office at 775-289-8877.

The next meeting of the Christmas decorating committee will be held Tuesday, October 13, at 8:00 am at the Bristlecone Convention Center. If you would like to be involved, please join us.
