The third annual “Punkin Chunkin” contest will return to the White Pine County Park on  Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. As the title of the event implies, the contest will challenge participants to launch their pumpkins further than competitors using a catapult or a trebuchet.

The main contest will begin at 12:30 p.m. though there will be plenty to do at the park before the pumpkins begin to fly. A pet costume contest will be judged at 11 a.m. and several lucky judges will also get to decide who made the best dessert in a cooking contest.

According to the event’s organizer Paul Johnson, the county park will feature a pumpkin patch for people to buy their own projectiles and there will be a station to paint and decorate them before lift off.

The Lions Club will also feature a catapult for long range water balloon tosses.
