On Oct. 24 at approximately 11:30 p.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a multi vehicle crash involving a motorcyclist that had been ejected on westbound IR80 just east of Pyramid Highway in Sparks.

Preliminary crash investigation reveals that a speeding motorcyclist was traveling westbound on IR80 approaching Pyramid highway when the motorcycle came into contact with a passenger car. This contact caused the rider of the motorcycle to lose control, crash and fall off the motorcycle.  During the course of the rider being ejected from the motorcycle, the rider was struck by a pickup truck pulling a fifth wheel trailer.

The driver of the motorcycle succumbed to his injuries and died on scene.  Westbound travel lanes of IR80 were closed and traffic was diverted for several hours while the crash scene was investigated.

Impairment at the time of crash is unknown.

Trooper Doug Hildebrand of the Nevada Highway Patrol’s Multi-Disciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team (MIRT) is investigating this incident.
