Nefi Josue Perez and Britney Nichole Carson have been named Students of the Month for September, according to Ely Elks Lodge #1469.

Perez, age 18, is the son of Ruben and Esperanza Perez of Ely.   Carson, age 17, is the daughter of Kurt and Amy Carson of Ely.   Both are Seniors at White Pine High School and will graduate with the Class of 2016.

The Student of the Month program is sponsored by the Elks Lodge in an effort to bring recognition to outstanding students in the area.

Multiple achievement, citizenship, scholarship and leadership are the basis for selection of Students  of the Month.

Perez is active in track & field and soccer as team captain. He is a member of the National Honor Society and an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.

He is also active in robotics and was the Rotary Student of the Month for September.

His hobbies are biking, hiking, camping, off-roading, and any family oriented activity.

Carson has been active in volleyball, softball and dance.  She is a member of the National Honor Society and the WPHS Choir.  Carson is also the WPHS Student Council Representative and was Grand Marshall.  Her hobbies are hunting, fishing, hiking and coaching kids in gymnastics.
