The White Pine High girls basketball team dominated its home opener Friday, Dec. 11, defeating Mountain View Christian 64-9.

Senior Kadi Finicum led her team’s offensive effort with 14 points and four rebounds. Sophomore Britney Kingston provided solid backup with 12 points and five rebounds of her own. Defensively the team held their opponent’s score to an impressive single digit.

Coach Krystal Smith stresses defensive tenacity.

“We never let down on defense,” Smith said, “and our man offense exploits everyone on the court.”

The team’s motto this season is “Tougher Together.”

Smith’s strategy seems to be working. The next day, they trounced Lake Mead Academy at home, 57-5.

Again Finicum led the way, scoring 17, with freshman Madison Rick adding 12. The team netted 29 total rebounds and 20 steals, hardly letting their opponent see the ball, much less score.

The Ladycats are now 7-0. They host Meadows Friday, Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. followed by another home game Dec. 19 at 12:30 p.m. against Calvary Chapel Christian.
