The White Pine High girls basketball team wrapped up the Gator Classic Tournament in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Dec. 30 by defeating Spanish Springs, 51-38. Senior Debra Kingston scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and senior Emily Bischoff added 12 points and five rebounds.
“It was super beneficial to play against some Division I teams,” Coach Krystal Smith said. “It allowed us to be pushed, something we definitely knew we needed.”
The Ladycats’ victory over Spanish Springs earned them 3rd place in the tournament.
“The tournament helped us realize what we need we need to work on,” Smith added.
Senior Ashlyn Huntington led her team in scoring four out of six games, and was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Ladycats’ record now stands at 12-3 overall, and they are tied atop the Division III Southern standings with Lincoln County, who they face Jan. 19. They travel to Laughlin Friday, Jan. 8 followed by another road game against Needles (Calif.) Saturday, Jan. 9. The Ladycats return to Ely to host Agassi Prep on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 3 p.m.
