Caleb Andy Britton and Jessie Kay Leyba have been named Junior Students of the Month for January, according to Ely Elks Lodge #1469.

Britton, age 14, is the son of Andy and Beckie Britton of Ely. Leyba, age 14, is the daughter of Susie and Sam Leyba of Ely.  Both are 8th graders at White Pine Middle School.

The Junior Student of the Month program is sponsored by the Elks Lodge in an effort to bring recognition to outstanding students in the area.

Multiple achievement, citizenship, scholarship and leadership are the basis for selection of Junior Students of the Month.

Britton has been active in little league, bass fishing, fly fishing, baseball, basketball and leadership.  He is also active in BBQ and backyard games, helping friends pack an Elk out, horn hunting with his parents, and achieved the All Stars team in little league.  His hobbies are fishing, airsoft, hunting, baseball, basketball, shooting clays, video games, cooking, lifting weights, riding bikes and hunting coyotes.

Leyba has been active in the volleyball A team both years at WPMS, a member of 4-H for nine years and a two time national qualifier for the Nevada State Rodeo, shooting competition.  She is also the Secretary for the WPMS Student Council and a Junior High representative of the White Pine High School Rodeo Club. She is a member of the Lutheran Church, an Elks Hoop Shoot winner and a 4-H Ambassador.

Leyba also placed 10th at the Rodeo shooting national competition.  Her hobbies are volleyball, softball, hunting, shooting sports, band, riding horses, fishing, WPMS leadership, photography, 4-H, dog training, music and camping.
