The White Pine County Tourism & Recreation Board will once again be hosting its Volunteer Appreciation Day.  This year’s event will be held Saturday April 9, 2016.  All civic organizations are invited to register their participation in this rewarding event.  The organizations can register by contacting the administrative office at the Bristlecone Convention Center. Stop by 150 Sixth St. or call 289-3720 by March 11th.

In 2007 the Board decided that they would like to do something to honor the volunteers in our community for the countless hours they give to help make this a great place to live and visit. Volunteer appreciation was created to give civic organizations a venue to help recruit more volunteers and also to give them and the Board the opportunity to say thank you for a job well done.

During the day booths will be set up on the train for the organizations to show what their group does and how potential volunteers can get involved. A free train ride will be provided at 1:00PM for all White Pine Residents. The hours for the booth portion will be from 11:00AM until 3:00 PM with set up beginning at 10:00AM. Two cars will be set up with tables. Groups will need to design their display to sit on a 3X4 table. While the train is in motion anyone wishing to use the microphone will be allowed to do so. Complimentary hot dogs and soda will be served on the train.

The invitation only dinner for the volunteers of the registered organizations will be that Saturday evening with the doors opening at 5:30PM and dinner at 6:00PM.  A head count, with names, is needed from each organization by Friday April 1st . With many people involved in more than one organization this is needed to try to keep the count as accurate as possible and help control costs. The Board will furnish an award for a top volunteer for each organization.  We need the name of the recipient by March 16th. Names received after this date will still be recognized but will receive a certificate instead of the formal award.

While we understand that many organizations have youth that are very active members, due to space we are requiring that all attendees for the awards night must be 18 or over. To try to keep the evening to a reasonable time frame, we will not be allowing recipients or the organization to use the microphone. Please be sure your volunteers are aware of these two items.

We look forward to seeing you there.  Come out and see what opportunities are available in the community.
