Obit-Baker1Sheridan M. Baker, also known as Merence Sheridan Baker, 78, passed away peacefully on February 24, 2016 in Elko, Nevada following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born August 22, 1937 in Sacramento, California to Ensio Tosolini and Florence Elizabeth Shaw.  She lived her younger years in Reno, Nevada.

In 1946 she moved to Ely, Nevada with her mother and stepfather, Thomas Howard McConnell.  She attended grade school and high school, graduating from White Pine High School in 1956.

On November 24, 1956 she married Carl F. Baker of Delta, Utah, at the United Methodist Church in Ely.  She and Carl were married for 50 years and together they raised four children.  In 1981 she and Carl moved to the Silver Creek Ranch in Baker, Nevada to work on the family ranch.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, her son, Kelley Guy Baker of Clam Gulch, Alaska and sister, Jennifer Wilber Luedtke of Reno.

She is survived by her brother Thomas “Tim” (Julie) McConnell of St. George, Utah and sister Mary Wahlberg of Battle Mountain, daughters Shawna Baker (Brian C. Amme) of Reno, Leasa (Kenneth Eugene) Hermansen of Elko and Erin Baker of Salem, Oregon, grandsons Cody (Maryah) Hermansen and Kyle Hermansen of Elko and great grandson Braxton Xavier Skog.  She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Sheridan was a talented home maker and gardener, and will always be remembered for her beautiful boxes of Christmas cookies and home grown raspberry jam.  She liked spending time with friends and family.  She enjoyed the outdoors; fishing with her grandsons, roasting hot dogs and beans on a camp fire or just going for a ride.  Sheridan enjoyed a variety of arts and crafts including embroidery and stained glass.  She also enjoyed Nevada history and was a collector of antiques.  Sheridan was an active member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Ely, embracing her church family as her own.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow the memorial service.
