The White Pine High track and field team competed in a league meet at Elko High March 19.
Junior Mikinley Prengel won the 200 meter race with a time of 27.31. Prengel also won the long jump at 15 feet, 11.5 inches. Freshman Madison Rick won the 400 meters at 1:02. Sophomore Lily Fullmer finished the 100 meter hurdles in second at 17.24 seconds, while sister and senior Lucy Fullmer finished third at 17.52. The 4×400 meter relay team also finished second with a time of 4:24.5. Senior Madeline Pickens placed second in the pole vault with 8 feet, 6 inches.
For the boys, sophomore Saxton Brewster placed second in the high jump at 5 feet, 8 inches and third in the long jump at 18 feet, 8.5 inches. Junior Kolton Bilbao finished the 300 meter hurdles in second place with a time of 47.62 seconds. The 4×400 meter relay team finished second at 3:52, and the 4×800 meter team placed third at 9:57.
“I told them, you guys can’t be getting down on yourselves this early in the season,” Coach Justin Locke said. “So we built on that in Elko. We’re just trying to build a team atmosphere and work on individual times. Even if it’s a second better, if we keep doing that, we’ll be ready for divisionals and state.”
The team travels to West Wendover on April 1 to compete in the Mickie Costanzo Invitational Tournament.
