The second annual children’s community theater production opened on April 1, 2016 at the Ely Elks Lodge. For the nervous cast of K-8th graders it was not an April Fools Day Joke; instead it was a great opportunity to show off their acting, singing, and dancing skills in front of an audience.  This year’s show is called The Fable Watch and is again sponsored by the Ely United Methodist Church.  It stars students from 7 different schools in the county; is directed by Pastor Suzanne Calhoun; features the choreography of Miss Viv (Viviana Weiland); and the musical accompaniment of Carla Wilkin and cast members.   The musical was written by Ely Residents Cliff and Suzanne Calhoun specifically for the group of students who auditioned this year.  It is a great show for the entire family that is based on the famous Fables of Aesop, but with a twist.  A brother and sister from a modern mixed family find a watch that whisks them off through time and place.  It is a great lesson in history, geography, and literature; as well as full of mystery and adventure.  Time is an unseen actor who runs throughout this story, even the children’s names have something to do with time. Kali means devourer of time and Zaman means giver of time.  Many actors play several different roles in the production, but one actor (other than Kali & Zaman) is seen as the same person throughout the show.

Come to the show on April 8th or 9th and see if you can solve the mystery of The Fable Watch!  Tickets are available at the door suggested contribution per seat is $5.00 and proceeds benefit Safe Haven, a program to help abused and neglected children in Nevada. Doors open at 5:30pm show starts at 6:00pm. Come out this Friday and Saturday night to support local children’s community theater in White Pine County.
