David E. Norman hosted a Drug, Alcohol, and Tobacco Prevention Assembly on April 25th, for 3rd-5th graders. Nevada Highway Patrol Officer Kelly Barney and his K-9 partner, Gino, along with Deputy Alan Pedersen and his K-9 partner, Quinto, joined Detective John Cessford for an educational message on the dangers of drugs. Laura Osland and Michele Oke from the PACE Coalition out of Elko, attended and spoke to students as well. After a well practiced ‘Addiction Dance’, performed by Mrs. Vinson’s third grade class, DEN students signed a pledge to remain drug and alcohol free. A drug and alcohol prevention poster contest was also held, with the following winners: 1st place-Sheama Tura, 2nd place-Diandra Partey, and 3rd place-Vicente Ramos. A great message from our community leaders, resulted in this very important pledge from our David E. Norman students to live their lives drug free! (Special thanks to Genevieve Nelson for organizing this event.)
