Nefi Josue Perez and Debra Lelani Kingston have been named Students of the Year for 2015-2016, according to Ely Elks Lodge #1469.

Perez, age 18, is the son of Ruben and Esperanza Perez of Ely. Kingston, age 18, is the daughter of William and Mele Kingston of Ely.  Both Perez and Kingston will graduate with the Class of 2016 at White Pine High School.

The Student of the Year program is sponsored by the Ely Elks Lodge in an effort to bring recognition to two outstanding students selected from the Students of the Month for 2015-2016.

Students of the Year are selected by the Youth Activities Committee in the sponsoring lodge and are suitably honored at a school awards night.  Multiple achievement, citizenship, scholarship and leadership are the basis for selection of Students of the Year.

Perez has been active in soccer as team captain, track and field and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Perez is also an Eagle Scout and very active in robotics and was selected as September 2015 Rotary Student of the Month. His hobbies are biking, hiking, camping, off-roading, and any family oriented activities.

Kingston has been active in varsity volleyball as team captain, varsity basketball as team captain and varsity softball.  She is a member of the National Honor Society and is the current WPHS Student Body President.

Kingston is also a member of the WPHS Choir and Honor Choir.  Her hobbies are reading and doodling whenever she gets a break from her hectic schedule, writing and jogging, being with good friends and family.  She also listens to music religiously and can’t go a day without it.Students of Year-Elks MV1
