Our beautiful angel; mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend returned home with our Lord on June 6, 2016, with her family at her side. She was 81 years young. Mabel was born on Feb. 7, 1935 in Vadito, N.M. to H.B. and Elaiza Montoya.
She is survived by her brother, Rudy Montoya and sister Sally Trujillo of Ely, and brother Ben (Molly) Montoya of Mora, N.M.
She grew up in Nevada, attending schools in White Pine County. On Oct. 31, 1953, she married Gilbert Ulibarri and they had many happy years together and had five children; Lorraine Johnson (Michael) St. George, Utah, Gilbert Ulibarri Jr. (Monica) Salt Lake City, Utah, Jan Wright (Tony) Elko, Nev., Dave Ulibarri, Ely, Nev., and Melissa McNutt (Les) Elko, Nev.
She was grandmother to 12 grandchildren; Jason, Amber, Mishael, Jessica, Erica, Tony, Nicole, Amanda, Keira, Jezaree, Tyson, and Kobe. She had 16 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.
She had so many people, young and old, who considered her “grandma.” She also loved her special and dear friend, Mary Arnold.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Gilbert. Mabel was a successful business owner for many years, who enjoyed operating Mabel’s Beauty Salon. She was very dedicated to her faith, always donating her time in many ways. She taught CCD, was a member of The Ladies Guild, Funeral Ministry, Rosary Group and Bible Study Groups.
A highlight of her life was being able to do a church pilgrimage to Medjugorje, Bosnia with her friends of the parish.
She was a three-time breast cancer survivor and had the will and courage to smile and never complain during the entire battle. She loved to read, sew, crochet, embroider and was a great baker of cookies, cakes and tortillas.
Mabel was a loving and gentle soul, always delighted by her family, and who cherished her many friendships. Her loving presence, sweet smile, and twinkling eyes will be missed by so many. Rest in peace our sweet angel. Until we meet again…
Services will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rosary on Friday, June 10 at 7 p.m. and Funeral Mass on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Following the burial at the cemetery, the family would like to invite you to join them at the St. Lawrence Hall for a Luncheon.
