Jerry Martin, chairman of the board of directors for Rural Nevada Development Corporation (RNDC), announced that Mary Kerner, lending administrator, has been appointed chief executive officer effective July 1

In her new role, Kerner will continue to fulfill the mission of RNDC, which is to identify the most feasible economic development activities in each of Nevada’s rural communities with a special emphasis on business concerns and addressing the need for affordable housing. Of Kerner, Martin said, “Mary has a proven record of leadership, customer service, team building and relationship management. She has a thorough understanding of the needs of our customers and I have no doubt that she is the right person to take the helm of RNDC as we enter our 25th year of operation.”

During her 14 year tenure at RNDC, Kerner has been honored as one of the top 10 lenders in the nation by the Small Business Administration. She is very active in her community and is elected to two boards; White Pine County School District Trustee (currently serving in her 5th year) and the Mt. Wheeler Power Board of Directors (elected in this year).

She and her husband, Curtis, reside in Ely. Together, they were just initiated into the Ely Elks Lodge, a service organization highlighting veterans’ affairs and education for children. The Kernser’s have five  children and in their free time, they like to spend time with family and traveling.

Kerner earned her bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in human resource management from Colorado University. She is certified as an economic development finance professional through the National Development Council and she is also a certified public official through the University of Nevada, Reno. Kerner said she is excited for this new role and is always up for a challenge.
