James “Kendall” Smith, age 73, resident of Hurricane, Utah passed away at his lovely home that he and his wife Marcia Smith of 5 years, just settled into. They were married August 9, 2011. Kendall died from pancreatic cancer on the morning of August 24, 2016. James Kendall was with his family.
Kendall was born to Lanse Kendall Smith and Audrey Ashby in Ely, Nevada on September 29, 1942. Kendall was the oldest of 4 children and grew up in Lund, Nevada.
In 1962 he served on an LDS mission in Toronto, Canada. Kendall was a lifelong active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various callings.
Kendall joined the National Guard in 1964. Shortly after returning, he married Helen Nielsen Smith; the mother of his 2 children.
He finished his Sociology Degree in 1995 at the University of Utah. He graduated alongside of his daughter, Taralyn Hall. He was a dedicated and hard worker.
Kendall was a devoted husband, father of 2 children and 2 grandchildren. He was a generous, loving, and strong man. He loved his family very much and always played a strong part in their lives. Kendall’s world was his family. He left a legacy of love for so many lives that he touches. He will be missed more than words can describe.
Preceded in death by his parents Lanse Kendall Smith and Audrey Ashby.
Survived by his wife: Marcia Smith; 1 daughter and 1 son: Taralyn (Mike) Hall and Garr (Cathy); 1 stepson: Kent Lavelle; 2 grandchildren: Gabriel and Calista Smith; 3 sisters: Leslie Burns, Andrea Nicholes and Allyson Duggan; former spouse and mother of his 2 children: Helen Nielsen Smith.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at 11:00 am at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley, 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 S), South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley on Monday, August 29, 2016 from 6:00-8:00 pm and again on Tuesday from 10:00-10:45 am prior to the funeral. Interment will be held at the Lund City Cemetery, Lund, Nevada on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at 11:00 am. Online condolences may be shared at www.jenkins-soffe.com.
