Ely State Prison is asking for help with donations of yarn. There are several inmates who have a very special talent with crocheting and many of them volunteer to crochet hats, scarves and lap blankets for the citizens in the community.
Unfortunately, they lack the resources to fund the yarn and items to complete projects.
“These volunteer inmates are amazingly talented,” said Kurt Lee, athletic and recreation specialist for Ely State Prison. “I’ve been very impressed with their skills doing tasks of this type. They want to do something good with their lives and this is one way they can give back to society the things they have taken.”
Their focus this holiday season is hats and scarves for the children at Little People’s Head Start. Lee is asking for donations of yarn so that they can make all these items before Christmas. If you would like to donate, please drop off your donations at the White Pine County Chamber of Commerce.
