With just weeks away, clothing racks are assembled, merchandise is in place, shelves are being stocked and the store is having it’s finishing touch’s put on it for the Grand Opening.
Store Manager Tom Sandt said, “We hope this is a one stop shop for all our customers needs. With major stores being 250 miles from town, we wanted to take care of the communities needs so that people don’t have to travel so far to shop.”
The store carries a wide variety of brand names at great prices, such as footware brands like Skechers, Avia, Fila, hair care products like Paul Mitchell, Matrix, Oneida, Correlle, and Keurig housewares, 55 inch TV’s with brands like VIzio and Magnavox.
They also carry a special soap and lotion line called J.R. Watkins. They have a section called Hometown Pantry. This carries many of your basic foods such as cereals, soups, snacks and soda. A wide selection of apparel for everyone in the family.
Any item you don’t see in the store and is available online, you can have shipped to the store for free. Shopko has a loyalty program that you can sign up online or in-store to earn points with your purchases.
And, if you don’t have time to shop, you can take advantage of their buy online pickup in store program, also known as BOPIS. You can do all your shopping from your computer, pay online, and then pick up all the items at the store rather than going into the store and physically shopping.
Store hours will be Monday through Satruday, 8:00a.m-10:00p.m. and 9:00a.m.-8:00p.m. on Sundays. Carol McKenzie, County Commissioner was very happy about the store coming into Ely, she said “I live 36 miles from town, this is great that they have these kind of hours”.
Store manager, Tom Sandt relocated to Ely from Seattle, Washington with his wife and child. With over 35 years of experience in the retail industry, Tom is helping to open the first Shopko in Nevada. He mentioned how positive everyone in the community has been with him and the store opening. He has been receiving so much positive feedback, he said “the people here are incredible”. The company hired approximately 28 employees, which have all been locals. They are planning on keeping
Shopko’s interest in community involvement is very strong as well. Tom mentioned that Shopko is looking forward to participating in events such as parades, picnics, school events, and volunteer projects. He was already coordinating with a local non-profit for himself and staff members to participate in a volunteer project. Shopko plans on giving a check to the Superintendent of the White Pine County Schools at the Grand opening.
A soft opening has been scheduled for November 6th, and the official grand opening is set for November 17th. What does that mean? That means that the doors will officially open on November 6th at 8:00 a.m., and you can begin shopping. This will allow the staff members of Shopko to get familiar with the volume of customers as well as ensure all their equipment is functioning properly. The Grand Opening is scheduled for November 17th.
