The Ely Weather Station was launching it’s first hydrogen filled balloon. Although hydrogen was much more dangerous the cost was much cheaper than helium.

Members of the Ely Jaycees addressed the White Pine Chamber of Commerce and the local mines proposing a Civic Complex as the next Community Development. The plan was to house a convention size auditorium, a new court house, a new library, teenage center, and perhaps a new high school with stadium facilities.
